8mm Film Transfers - Super 8mm Film to UHD Digital with Precision
8mm Film Transfers offers professional Super 8mm film-to-digital conversion in UHD resolution using advanced telecine and UHD capture technology. The process is designed to preserve the visual detail, color, and original character of vintage Super 8mm footage while converting it into a modern digital format suitable for viewing, editing, sharing, and archival storage.
Super 8mm film was introduced by Kodak in 1965 and became popular among home movie makers, amateur filmmakers, hobbyists, and families recording weddings, birthdays, vacations, childhood memories, and other important events.
Materials & Construction
Super 8mm film is an 8mm-wide flexible photographic film strip with precision-cut sprocket holes. Vintage Super 8mm film commonly uses a cellulose triacetate or polyester film base with a photographic emulsion layer. The film is typically wound onto a plastic or metal reel.
Durability indicators include flexible film, intact sprocket holes, and a reel that is not cracked, bent, or rusted. Brittle film, damaged sprocket holes, warping, shrinkage, or a vinegar-like odor can indicate deterioration. Contact Precision Transfers before ordering if your film appears damaged or unusually fragile.
Reel Sizes & Capacity
Precision Transfers supports standard Super 8mm reels from 3 to 7 inches in diameter. Supported reel capacities include:
-
3-inch reel—approximately 50 feet or 3–4 minutes
-
4-inch reel—approximately 150 feet or 5–8 minutes
-
5-inch reel—approximately 200 feet or 8–10 minutes
-
6-inch reel—approximately 300 feet or 12–15 minutes
-
7-inch reel—approximately 400 feet or 16–20 minutes
There is no separately published weight limit. Capacity is determined by the reel diameter and footage length, with support for up to approximately 400 feet of film on a 7-inch reel. Contact Precision Transfers for unusually large, damaged, or non-standard reels.

Care & Preparation
Handle original Super 8mm film reels carefully before sending them for transfer. Store the reels in a clean, dry, and temperature-controlled environment away from excessive heat, humidity, dust, and direct sunlight.
Package the reels securely so they cannot move inside the shipping container. Use protective wrapping and a sturdy box to reduce the risk of damage during transportation. Do not attempt to clean, splice, or repair fragile film unless you have suitable film-handling experience.
Contact Precision Transfers before shipping reels that are brittle, warped, damaged, unusually large, or have a vinegar-like odor. After the transfer is complete, maintain at least two backup copies of the digital files on reliable storage devices or cloud services. Continue storing the original reels carefully to prevent further deterioration.

It's easy as 1, 2, 3.
How it Works
The process is easy, simply create your order, send in your media and we'll digitize your memories.

Place an Online Order
Place your order after selecting the media type and quantity, adding it to cart, and then creating an account.

Send in Your Media
The cost of shipping to Precision Transfers is not included in the rate and is handled by Canada Post or your local courier. The return shipment fee is available when placing your order if you wish to return tapes or films. Free return shipping is also available for orders over $150. The customer may choose to recycle the originals rather than return it upon completion.

View & Save Your Media
The transferred files are sent via a Google Drive link where you can download them. You can then save the file to your local drive or your USB drive. Due to the fact that this format is no longer supported by the industry, we do not support transfers to DVD. High-quality MP4 files are the standard transfer format, and we also store a backup locally for six months. Please let us know if you have a specific format request.
